Welcome to wforbes.dev

I’m Will and I really like working on code. I like it so much I made a career out of it, but that career’s started changing pretty fast in the last few years. Now that we’ve gotten more and more impressive AI tools that can write code for us, the concept of ‘working on code’ is starting to mean something different for a lot of people.

There’s a lot of uncertainty among software engineers, quite a bit of confusion, and a lot of frustration. Problems finding new jobs, problems navigating their current job, and an overall loss of passion in doing what they used to really enjoy. Despite all that there are incredible people pushing through and driving innovation in how we do our work, leveraging AI and unique ways to use it. New insights and opinions, new workflows and tools, new apps and services.

It’s a dynamic situation, every year going forward might look very different than the previous one, but I’m more excited now than I’ve ever been. During 2021 and 2022, we got a peek at Github Copilot and other tools. All interesting, but they caused more problems than they were worth. From 2023 to 2025, ChatGPT got the world’s attention, Cursor brought it into the code editor, Lovable packaged it for non-devs, and Claude Code brought it to the terminal. All the while, large language models became so much more capable, and the workflows we use became more refined. We’re now halfway through 2026 as I write this and there’s every indication that new tools like Pi coding agent will push into the mainstream and keep the ball rolling.

Why I Started Blogging

That big divide between how developers use and view AI has concerned me, this huge explosion of tools and capability has fascinated me, and the rapid public discourse around all of it has repeatedly made me rethink all my own approaches to these things. So I thought it’d be a good idea to start blogging about it.

Topics you can probably expect:

  • AI Engineering - exploring how to build applications that use foundation models for something useful
  • Non AI Dev Topics - general software and web development topics, because not everything has to be ai
  • Tech industry - trends, tools, and the evolving landscape of software development
  • Opinions and Journals - I reserve the right to rant about something or make boring autobiographical posts no one will read

What’s next

Lately, finding better workflows to generate code with AI has naturally progressed into learning how to add AI features to my projects. I’m planning to share what I’m learning as I build projects that leverage foundation models and make progress in that direction.

Until then, I shared some thoughts on Two Types of Engineers in the AI Era and an exploration on What AI Engineering Actually Means in my first blog posts here.
